Will there be an India vs Pak match in WCL Season 2

Will the Indian champion team play against the Pakistan champion team in WCL Season 2?

World Championship of Legends season 2 is scheduled to play from 18 July to 2 August, 2025 and in this t20 tournament 6 teams have signed up. The much awaited match of this league is between India-C and Pakistan-C which is scheduled to play on 20 July 2025 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. But the question is, amid war tensions between India and Pakistan, will the match of Ind vs Pak be played in the upcoming WCL Season 2 or the political tensions force a cancellation?

Well, the World Championship of Legends is officially sanctioned and approved by the ECB and so far its one edition is played in 2024. This year its second season is scheduled to play from 18 July and like the previous season, the 6 teams named – India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies will participate

The tension between India and Pakistan has been going on for decades, and the sports arena has also often been affected by it. Bilateral series between the two countries have almost ended, and only in ICC tournaments or franchise leagues do these teams get to play against each other.

Currently, there is no official confirmation by the WCL officials that the match between India and Pakistan which is scheduled to play on July 20, 2025 has been cancelled. However, if the political situation worsens in the coming days, the match of IND-C vs PAK-C could be cancelled or might be only 5 teams play the tournament instead of 6.

The World Championship of Legends (WCL) is owned by a visionary leadership team consisting of:

  • Harshit Tomar: Founder & CEO of WCL.
  • Ajay Devgn: Bollywood icon and Co-owner of WCL.
  • Nishant Pitti: Co-founder of EaseMyTrip and Chief Patron of WCL

The owners of this league (WCL) are Indians and they have good control in the decision making who will participate and who won’t. So based the upcoming meetings, this might be announced that the Pakistan Champions is not playing the season 2 of World Championship of Legends. Either Pakistan team will be replaced by other team or the tournament will be proceed with 5 teams which would be – India, WI, England, SA, and Australia.

Apart from that if we checkout the past years, when tensions between the two countries have increased, cricket matches have either been postponed or played at neutral venues. But if political situations come in the way of this match, it will be a source of disappointment not only for the players but also for the fans.

Finally… Although the WCL administration will try to keep sports above politics, the chances of this match happening in a situation like a war between India and Pakistan seem slim. Hopefully, relations between the two countries will improve and cricket fans will once again get a chance to see their favorite legends together. The answer will become clear in the coming days, but until then, cricket fans will have to wait patiently.
