When asked by Ravi Shastri about his plans, Sharma replied, “I don’t care about the toss. Let the game decide who will win the 2025 Champions Trophy final in Dubai.”
The India vs. New Zealand final began at 2:30 PM Indian Standard Time, and New Zealand got off to a perfect start. Openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra built a solid partnership of 57 runs for the first wicket. Both batters played well, scoring 57 runs in 7.5 overs at an average of 7 runs per over. However, India changed their bowling strategy, and Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Will Young via an LBW decision. Shortly after, Kuldeep Yadav clean-bowled Rachin Ravindra, leaving New Zealand at 69/2. The collapse continued as Kuldeep Yadav claimed another wicket, catching and bowling Kane Williamson at 75. New Zealand had lost three wickets with just 75 runs on the board.

Now it was India’s turn to bat. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took the field. Rohit Sharma played a solid innings, scoring a half-century, and India crossed the 100-run mark in 17 overs. However, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner broke the partnership by dismissing Shubman Gill at 105. In a moment of brilliance, Glenn Phillips took a stunning catch to send Gill back to the pavilion. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, Axar attempted a big shot and was caught by Will O’Rourke off Michael Bracewell’s bowling. This was an unexpected dismissal, as Axar could have played more defensively. India’s score was now 203/5.
Hardik Pandya joined KL Rahul and brought hope to the Indian camp. The pair added 38 runs for the sixth wicket before Hardik was caught and bowled by Kyle Jamieson at 241. With just 10 runs needed, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul held their nerve, guiding India to the target of 251 runs in 49 overs.
