Chidiya Udd Game Rules – You Must Know These Before Playing!

Chidiya Udd is an indoor and fun loving game which is played in a group among kids, teens, and adults. Adults play it with kids for fun as this game keeps kids engaged and also helps in enhancing their brain skills. As this is indoor game, it can be played at home, or in the picnic hours.

Those who predicts the wrong word, he/she considered out and here other players either can ask to sing a song or they play the game of Namak Mirch Masala also called Noon Mirch Masala in Punjab & Haryana side.

As this game is quite simple to play, but still it is better to have a look at some rules. These rules make the overall game play interesting and thrilling.

Here’s all about Chidiya udd game rules which as a player you must know…

Rule 1: This game is played in a group, so there sound be 3 to 5 members in the game.

Rule 2: Suppose there are 5 players in your group, now out of them 1 would be the caller, and remaining will be the players who play the game.

  • Caller: In general, the senior one is selected as the caller who call the words that can fly or can’t fly like Chidiya udd, Tota udd, Haathi udd etc. His job is to verify that is the game fair or not. He decides, who has done right or wrong. In short, he is like cricket umpire who decides what’s wrong, what’s right.
    • When the caller utters a word he has to add the wordudd‘ at the end. Means if he wants to say Chidiya… he has to say Chidiya udd, and in case of Chair or Table… he will utter Chair udd, Table udd.
    • The caller can point his finger in the air for a flying or non-flying object. But players has to lift finger only if the particular objects fly in the air.
  • Players: Players will react to the word called by the caller. If every player has given the correct response to the word, the game will continue otherwise the losing player will be punished.
    • If the object fly the player must lift a finger.
    • If the object can’t fly the player must avoid lifting a finger.

Rule 3: Initially all players have to put finger on the ground or table. When the caller calls out a word, players have to either raise a finger in the air or put it on the ground, depending on the word.

  • If the called word can fly – lift finger up in air like Chidiya, Tota, Pigeon
  • If the called word can’t fly – don’t raise finger like Dog, Billi, Haathi

Rule 4: Play this game on flat surface, like Table, Floor, Bed. Don’t use uneven surface!

Rule 5: (Very important): Before starting, clear about some Chidiya udd words like on what words you have to raise the finger in air. You have to give example to each and every player. This word list includes – living flying creatures like Bird, Pigeon, Owl, non-flying objects like Table, Chair, non-flying living creatures like Dog Elephant, and last… man-made non-living objects like Helicopter, Airplane, Rocket etc.

It is better to clear should we raise finger if caller says Helicopter, Airplane, Rocket, Cloud? Because these are some confusing words that don’t have wings like birds but they can fly.

So once you well aware of everything related to Chhidiya udd game rules, sit in a circle and start playing the game. I give you some examples… when will a player be considered out?

  1. Upon calling Chidiya udd, if any player doesn’t raise finger, he/she considered out as the Chidiya (Bird) has wing, can fly.
  2. Upon calling Billi udd or cat udd, if any player does raise finger, he/she considered out as this creature can’t fly.
  3. Else if response is right…  game continues!
