Team India is playing their first match of Super 8 T20 World Cup 2026 against South Africa – bowlers of India did a good job, but batters failed to chase the target of 188. The top order of India collapsed very badly – Ishan Kishan got out for 0, Tilak Verma for 1, and then Abhishek Sharma also failed to make a big score and got out for 15. The Indian team had scored only 20 runs, and their top-order batsmen were already back in the pavilion
In the middle order, Captain Suryakumar tried to lift the score but failed. He was playing slowly, and due to too much pressure, he also went back to the pavilion. After that, the middle order collapsed – and players like Hardik Pandya, Washington, and Rinku failed to save the innings. Though Shivam Dube tried to save the innings and hit 3 big sixes, it was too late, and the whole team, with a very good lineup of batters, was out on 111.
Experts shared their opinions on social media platforms and said – the same happened with South Africa – SA lost 3 wickets at 20, but they managed to set a score of 187/7, thanks to David Miller’s explosive 63 off 35 balls, Dewald Brevis’ 45, and Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 44. But in the same situation, India failed to chase the target and were all out at 111 (7 balls remaining).
This was a big embarrassment as the net run rate of Team India is too poor – -3.80. This means that even if either Zimbabwe or West Indies lose the next match, India will be at the bottom. This also means even if the India team plays future matches, this net run rate might make the road to the semi-final very tough. Indian batters failed to play against spin and slow deliveries. This is Super 8, and the India team can’t perform like that – if India lose any game now against Zimbabwe or West Indies , then they are out of the T20 World Cup 2026!
