Stapoo is an Indian hopscotch game that played by many people in their free time on street, on roof, in home backyard, in park, or in an open space. This game has some rules which makes it interesting and we come up with a guide which explain about Stapoo game rules very well.
Know about the Stapoo game rules as this will help you better understand how the game of stapoo is actually played without getting out!
As this game has 2 variations – 1. pick the marker on one foot and 2. kick the marker on one foot.
1. Pick the marker on one foot
In very 1st variation, the player will throw marker for first time in box 1 and then on one foot, he/she picks the marker (skip the box, won’t land here) and then jump directly to 2nd box. Now jump from box 2 to box 3 and this process goes till box 8.
If everything goes well, this time the player will throw the marker into box 2 and jump on one leg to box 1, pick up the marker, and skip box 2 and jump straight from box 1 to box 3 and then from box 3 to box 4 and so on until box 8.
Point to Note: In Box 4 and Box 5, the player can be on 2 foot!
Rules:
- There would be 8 square box and 1, 2, 3… 8. The right side have counting from 1 to 4 and left side counting 8 to 5.
- The box pair will be like: 1-8, 2-7, 3-6-4-5
- Player will throw marker in box and the marker should not touch the lines. If marker touch any line of the grid or lands outside of the grid, then the player turn will over and next player will play.
- While playing, player foot should not touch grid line, it should be inside the box and if any part of foot touches the grid line then the player turn will over and next player will play.
- The rule is simple, player should be on one foot and then pick the marker.
- Where the player throw marker… the player has to skip that box… he/she can’t land on that box.
- In box 4 and 5 the player can be on 2 foot, and skip box rule will not apply.
2. Kick the marker on one foot
In another variation, the player will first throw the marker into box 1 and then on one foot, he will kick the marker from box 1 to box 2 and then from box 2 to box 3 and so on till box 8. So in this variation, there is no such concept to skip the box.
If everything goes well, this time the player will throw the marker into box 2 and one leg jump to box 1, and from box 1 to box 2, kick the marker from box 2 to box 3 and then box 4 and so on till box 8.
Point to Note: In Box 4 and Box 5, the player can be on 2 foot and simply kicks the marker with any leg!
- The rule is simple, player should be on one foot and then kick the marker.
- While kicking marker, if marker lands on grid line or lands outside the grid then the player turn will end.
- In box 4 and 5 the player can be on 2 foot, and easily kicks the marker from box 4 to 5 and box 5 to box 6.
In both variation of the game, the objective is to complete the grid by hopping on one foot and reaching all the numbered squares (1 to 8), while avoiding stepping on the lines and ensuring the stone or marker (also called stapoo) lands in the correct box.
Apart from that, if player gets unbalanced and lands out of the grid, then his/her turn will end and next player will play the game.
