Gill’s squad is all set to quest in Sri Lanka where Indian national cricket team will play 2 match test series against Sri Lankan national cricket team. This will be the India’s first Test series in Sri Lanka since 2017 which is scheduled to play from 15 to 19 August and 23 to 27 August 2026 at Galle and Colombo respectively.
This series is the part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle and both teams need points so they can lift up their position in ICC WCT standings. At present India is at 5th Position, while Sri Lanka is at 6th position in the Men’s ICC World Test Championship standings. If India wins this 2 match test series by 2-0 (without tie or draw) then India will be at 4rth and Push Bangladesh to 5th.
The squad of Team India for Sri Lanka tour has been announced by BCCI, and here’s all about the schedule, squads, venues, where to watch live on TV and live streaming on mobile in India.

Ravindra Jadeja returns in India’s squad
The good news is that for Ind vs SL (test series 2026) star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is returning to team India against Sri Lanka who was not the part of the squad for the Test series against Afghanistan played in June 2026. Fans had feared that Jadeja might not make a comeback due to the ongoing controversy surrounding player selection. But all such speculations have now been proven wrong—simply because there is currently no all-rounder in the Indian Test team capable of taking Sir Jadeja’s place!

Final Words
This test series is very important for India’s WTC 2025-27 hopes (currently 5th with ~48% PCT). Both teams are strong on paper, but based on the practicality and past performances… India looks better as they have a strong batting lineup and a good spin & fast bowling attack. India simply must win this series 2-0; otherwise, the chance to play in the WTC final will remain just that—a mere possibility.
On the other hand, the Sri Lankan cricket team is quite adept at forcing a draw. In their last five Test matches, they have managed to secure two draws; one of these was played recently against the West Indies in North Sound, Antigua, in July 2026.
Therefore, if Sri Lanka doesn’t win but tries its utmost to force a draw against India, it would be shameful, as it could potentially prevent India from qualifying for the WTC. That is why Indian cricket experts are saying that a ‘clean sweep’ should be achieved without showing any mercy!
