The upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to play from 12 June to 5 July 2026 in England & Wales. There are 12 teams in this cricket tournament which are divided into 2 Groups of Group A and Group B. Overall 33 matches will be played in this WT20I world cup including Semi-Finals and Finals.
This is the first time when 12 teams are going to participate in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup. In last season (2024), the number were 10, but this year the tournament has been expanded with 2 more teams. So, 12 teams will battle for the trophy in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and it will begin on 12 June.
As listed on the official website of ICC, the first match of Women’s T20 WC 2026 is scheduled to played between Sri Lanka and England on 12 June 2026 at Edgbaston, Birmingham and the final match will be held between top 2 teams (Winner of Semi-Final 1 vs Winner of Semi-Final 2) at the famous Lord’s in London on 5 July. For whole tournament 7 venues are being used—Bristol, Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval.
12 Qualified Teams for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 – Group A and Group B
As mentioned by the ICC’s expansion plan, the 2026 edition includes 12 teams, 33 matches across 7 venues. That means more cricket for you and me. The new teams are Netherlands (making their debut), Scotland, Ireland, and Bangladesh—all coming through the Global Qualifier held in Nepal earlier this year.
- Australia (Top 5 in 2024 WC)
- India (Top 5 in 2024 WC)
- Pakistan (Ranked)
- South Africa (Top 5 in 2024 WC)
- Bangladesh (Qualified via Qualifier)
- Netherlands (Qualified via Qualifier — Tournament Debut)
- England (Hosts)
- New Zealand (Top 5 in 2024 WC)
- West Indies (Top 5 in 2024 WC)
- Sri Lanka (Ranked)
- Ireland (Qualified via Qualifier)
- Scotland (Qualified via Qualifier)
This is how these 12 teams are divided in 2 groups of Group A and Group B for Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Each groups have 6 teams as shown below:
- Group A: Australia, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Netherlands
- Group B: West Indies, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland
As per my analysis, the Group A is bit tough… only Bangladesh and Netherlands are weak teams. While the Group B looks easy as Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Scotland are weak teams. All in all what I can say… this is the Women’s T20I World Cup and any team can change the momentum of game anytime.
The top 2 teams of each groups will qualify for the Semi Finals – Semi-Final 1 (A1 vs B2) and Semi-Final 2 (A2 vs B1) and from here, the winning teams will compete against each other in the final (SFW1 vs. SFW2).

Apart from that I would like to point that New Zealand enter as the defending champions. Why? Because in the 2024 final, they beat South Africa and broke Australia’s winning streak. I remember watching that game—nobody gave New Zealand a chance. But that is T20 cricket. As per ESPNcricinfo’s post-match analysis, Australia’s dominance ended that night. So in 2026, Australia will come hungry to win this year’s title. Keep an eye on their group matches, especially against South Africa on 13 June at Old Trafford.
