The popularity of the IPL in India is immense. Being a student, working professional, businessman or house manager this is the league that everyone loves to watch. Each person has their own favorite team or star player and due to this a common question always asked on social media – Which IPL team has the biggest fan following?. Well, I know you won’t get right answer because every fan thinks their team is the biggest fan base! But guys, I have researched and checked the all social media pages of each team and based on that I will let you which team has the most fan base.
Well, when Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2008… there were only 8 teams and most popular were CSK and MI. Later more teams added in this t20 league and currently there are 10 teams which are – CSK, MI, RCB, KKR, PBKS, SRH, DC, RR, GT (added in 2022), and LSG (added 2022). Based on the current data (combined of X, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram), Chennai Super Kings (#1. CSK) sits at the top followed by Mumbai Indians (#2. MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (#3. RCB).
In short, till date Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise has the largest loyal fan following. Even if you checkout the history which team had the most fan base in 2025, 2024 or 2023… you will find out it the one and only CSK. The reasons are – MS Dhoni fan following, fans love for Dhoni and 5 Time IPL winner!
#1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
According to multiple fan engagement reports from 2024 and 2025 (including data shared by IPL broadcasters and Ormax Media), CSK has the highest estimated fan base across India – roughly 46 million active supporters. The reasons are – Fans’ love for MS Dhoni and this team is 5 times winner (won IPL title 5 times).
In 2025, CSK total follower was around 42 Million… and now in 2026 it increased by ~10% – roughly around 46 Million.
Each year new fans follow the CSK page and share their favorite moments and even they ask question and participate in the on going events. The fan following of this team is still growing across different social platforms, and it’s likely to increase even further after MS Dhoni’s retirement.
#2. Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians is at 2nd in this list having 44 Million follower (~10% Jump from last year). The big reason when IPL started in 2008, Sachin Tendulkar was in this team as an active player and you know already about the Fan following of Sachin. He was (or at present he is) a popular star cricket in the world and fans followed MI page because they loved Sachin.
So the #1. reason why MI has so much big fan base? the answer is Sachin Tendulkar!
Apart from that, #2. this team has other big star players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, and Hardik Pandya. These players already have a strong fan following on the social media and becasue they all are part of MI… their fans have also liked the main pages.
Last, #3. when a team wins the title they get some extra likes and following. Like CSK, MI also won the IPL title for 5 times and hence the fan following of Mumbai Indians is too strong and stable!
#3. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
At present Virat Kohli is a big name in the world of Cricket and he plays from RCB side and this is single and strong reason people follow RCB without any second thought. This team had a strong fan following due to Virat Kohli since 2008… but now it even improved more as RCB won its first title of IPL in 2025. The total followers of RCB in 2025 was around 34 Million but now in 2026 they have got massive jump of around 20%. RCB currently has 42 Million followers and the number is still growing due to other active star players like Rajat Patidar and Tim David!
According to a 2023 Twitter analysis by Stats Perform, RCB gets the highest mentions per match even when they lose. Why? Because fans love the struggle story. They don’t support a team – they support a hero. But practically, RCB’s fan base is more digital than on-ground. In Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, you see empty seats on a weekday match. But on YouTube? RCB’s highlights get more views than some finals.

Next in the fan base list KKR stands at #4 having 40 Million followers. This number is too big because this team is owned by Bollywood star actor King Khan – Shah Rukh Khan. So this is like all fans of Shah Rukh Khan will connect with KKR too + this team won IPL title for 3 times. Apart from that PBKS stands at #5 having 17 million followers. This team is owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and because she is quite active on social media, her team gained massive fan following!
So, if you want the all-time popularity crown – CSK, then MI, then RCB. Numbers change every year, but emotions don’t. And in IPL, emotion sells more than trophies.
